“Inclusivity and Sustainability” will be main theme for Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship in 2025

LAOS:Malaysia will become ASEAN Chairmanship 2025 starting from 1 January 2025. Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim received the handover of the Asean Chairmanship from Laos’ Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone in the closing ceremony of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summits.


  “Malaysia has chosen the theme of Inclusivity and Sustainability. It reflects our aspiration for truly shared progress, ensuring that no one is left behind. It conveys our hope that the steps we take today will endure in the long run. It underscores our determination to keep the future firmly in sight as we move forward.” Said by Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim when he spoke in the closing ceremony of the 44th and 45th ASEAN Summit on 10 October 2024. 

 

  At all times our actions and decisions will be guided by the principle of consensus. Together, we will reaffirm our commitment to building an open, inclusive and rule-based regional building.


Anwar said that Malaysia’s chairmanship will begin a new chapter under the“ASEAN Community Vision 2045”. Malaysia already become ASEAN Chair in 1977,1997,2005 and 2015. ASEAN currently consists of 10 member states and Timor-Leste’s full membership pending.
