KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia — Telur Pecah 3.0, an exhibition showcasing 600 contemporary artworks by 105 local artists, has been brought back for the third year in a row.
Held from 10 October to 12 November at GMBB in Bukit Bintang, the artworks were presented in various forms, including canvas paintings, objects and installations. The exhibition was officially launched by breaking painted ceramic eggs with a wooden mallet on the first day.

Philip Wong Hon Keong, 55, Telur Pecah 3.0’s founding curator, said that during the beginning of his career, he felt artists struggle with getting their artwork noticed due to the lack of organisation and communication skills.
“I found out that our government didn't do anything for this part, so we need to create a platform for the artists”, added Wong.
Although the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture officiated the recent and last year’s Telur Pecah, it did not have a major impact on increasing the sales and size of the exhibition. Despite that, Telur Pecah 3.0 managed to sell over 70 artworks this year.
There were five categories in the exhibition—French-style 1428: The Salon, which featured artists from 14 states and territories and Art & Health, where the artworks of child and special needs artists were showcased. Telur Pecah 3.0 also had Guest Artist Installations, Solo Showcases and Gallery Spotlight in collaboration with Core Design Gallery.
Each artwork featured in Guest Artist Installations and Solo Showcases had a dedicated space for the artists to express themselves through the use of different materials.

“I was told I would be given a unit for an installation so I really wanted to make something that would have an impact”, said Danielle Lin Xuan-En, also known as Danielle L. Shannon, 22, a professional artist.
Regarding her ‘I am Just a Girl’ installation, Lin explained that the idea of feminism has been distorted nowadays and people would think that “women have to be strong or become leaders to be respected”.
“We shouldn’t leave feminine girls out of the equation, maybe some girls just genuinely enjoy being girly”, explained Lin.
Telur Pecah 3.0 has allowed independent and emerging artists to reach greater heights in their careers while celebrating diverse local talents throughout the nation.
“Next year, hopefully, I can get 1,000 artists, this was my dream 20 years ago and nobody dared to do it”, Wong said.
