It’s safe to say that while being holed up within the confines of our homes and fighting off pandemic blues, we have relied on the media more than ever for our quarantine fuel.

Early this year saw a significant rise in the consumption of comic-book media through streaming services and digital platforms.

Television shows and films like Wandavision, Titans, Doom Patrol, Invincible, Black Widow and Zack Snyder’s Justice League, have dominated internet culture as the world struggled to get back on its feet.

In light of the pandemic and temporary closure of San Diego Comic-Con, DC Comics put together the DC FanDome, a one-stop virtual event for any and all to experience new content right at the comfort of their fingertips.

Gathering celebrities and creators in all areas of media - film, television, video games and comics, they hosted panel sessions and presented breaking news, exclusive trailers and never-before-seen footage of upcoming projects to attendees.

What’s more, the virtual event was completely free, and can be watched live from any digital device.

This year was DC’s second iteration of the event after a successful debut last year that drew in a 22 million viewership count from across 220 countries and territories, according to a report by Variety.

Held on 16 October, the four-hour event dished out exciting new content for the upcoming months.

According to the Verge, some of the highlights of the event include trailers and footage from upcoming films like Black Adam, the Aquaman sequel, the Flash and the Shazam sequel.

The event also included appearances from long-time comic book artists, like Jim Lee who hosted a panel session talking about the inclusive future for heroes today and its impact on readers, referencing the reveal of bisexuality in popular characters, Jonathan Kent and Timothy Drake, in recent news.

To conclude the virtual event, the trailer of the highly anticipated film ‘The Batman’ was released, creating a buzz among fans and going viral within minutes of its release.

DC FanDome once again sustained a successful year, drawing in some favourable views on social media, including Twitter.

Journalist Sheraz Farooqi commended The Batman trailer which aired at the end of the event.

User @Naetoid compared DC FanDome with the likes of Comic-Con panels.

Whether you’re a dedicated fan staying up past midnight to experience the thrill of live announcements or a casual fan who prefers waking up to a flurry of new content, there was something for everyone.

As the uncertainty of tomorrow hangs over us, a sense of comfort comes from looking to the media for support and entertainment.

And DC continues to deliver on that front, churning out new and exciting content that keeps their fans and attendees satisfied.

A recording of the event can be accessed on DC Comics Official Youtube Channel or on www.dcfandome.com
