-And other curious facilities you might have missed on the lakeside.
For more than a decade, the Taylor’s lakeside campus has been expanding and developing, in line with the ever-increasing number of students. With every passing year, more facilities are being added to not only aid the education process of students from various schools, but to also ease students through their academic journey.
1. The Movie Theatre
Tucked at the far end of the second floor of the Taylor’s Library, the movie theatre is a facility that’s easy to miss, especially if you rarely use the print services or computers that hide the lounge.
Open 10 hours a day from Tuesday to Friday, the theatrette mainly serves as a quiet place where students can take a much needed break in between classes. Throughout the day, episodes of popular series and movies are continuously projected, so students can come in at any time to enjoy the screenings.
"The equipment provided such as a projector and comfortable seats makes it a suitable place to host events too," says Leroy Ko, head of events of the Pride Club, who is a frequent visitor of the space.

2. The Vortex XR Lab
The Vortex XR Lab is a platform headed by the Faculty of Innovation and Technology where academics are able to create immersive solutions while providing the necessary equipment for content creation through the use of extended reality (XR).
Within the space, industry-standard technology allows students to experience the full potential of XR. From virtual reality headsets to high-end workstations, the lab expands the limits of one's creativity by exposing them to extremely modern aspects of technology.
"The lab is mostly used by the School of Computer Science but students from other schools, especially from Communications also use it sometimes," says Terence Raj, a senior lecturer part of the Taylor's School of Media and Communication.
As such, Taylor's students are able to use the space even if the facility is not part of a module's curriculum. Curious students would simply need to fill up an online application via Campus Central to experience the lab. Students are also able to schedule a demonstration session with the Faculty of Innovation and Technology to know more about the equipment and their functions.

3. Manifestation - The Culinary Bar Theatre
Hidden within the lower ground floor of the lakeside campus, the space is a “Sixty lecture hall seating with tablet arms, a fully-functioning kitchen and audio-visual conferencing technology that is ideal for live culinary demonstrations and beverage production,” according to the Taylor’s website.
Within the theatre, culinary students are able to witness leading professionals and celebrity chefs perform their art in a way that seems straight out of a cooking show.
Aside from culinary students, students from other schools are also able to witness performances and shows within Manifestation during events hosted by the Taylor’s Culinary Institute. So if you’re looking to catch a peek at your favorite celebrity chef, check out their socials.
