KUALA LUMPUR – One of Southeast Asia’s biggest banks, Maybank, recently collaborated with Taylor’s University Women in Business Club to host a financial literacy talk and office tour called “Does it Make Cents? 2.0 - Youth: Money Makers in the Making”.

Taylor’s University Women in Business (TUWIB) is the university’s first undergraduate-run organization promoting female leadership in business and entrepreneurship. Established in 2023, the club held their very first upscale event off-campus on Thursday, October 10. This collaboration with Maybank marked a significant milestone for TUWIB, showcasing the club’s growth and commitment to fostering female leadership.

“We found Ms. Hani (Head of Youth Event and Communications at Maybank)’s Linkedin profile and we just emailed her to see if the club could partner with Maybank. We actually emailed a bunch of other banks and we were just very lucky to have Maybank be on board with this significant event in our club’s history,” said Nur Iman Binti Mohammed Nizar Faisal, TUWIB President and Year 2 Student studying Bachelor’s of Business (Honors) in Marketing.

With over 50 participants in attendance, the event kicked off with an opening remark from Maybank and an office tour at several parts and floors of Menara Maybank, Kuala Lumpur. It was then followed by a workshop on financial literacy and a game of Jenga.

Lee Ching Huan, Executive, Youth Event and Communications at Maybank shared her experience collaborating with TUWIB, “The TUWIB members were all helpful and responsive to our inquiry while we were in the planning process. Since the event’s focus was about financial literacy, we hoped that the participants could have a better understanding on how to manage their finances properly.”

The event was a resounding success, with participants boasting about their experience being exposed to the corporate finance industry and having built meaningful connections with professionals alike.

TUWIB aims to continue its mission of empowering more women to step into the world of business and entrepreneurship and providing greater opportunities for a wide range of Taylor’s students. The collaboration with Maybank is just the beginning of what the club hopes will be a long series of partnerships with other renowned corporations.
