Students looking for a fresh change of scenery will be pleased to learn about the new green walls installed between blocks C, D, and E. According to the Vice President of Taylor's University’s facilities department, Mark Tay, these green walls improve the sustainability of the campus as a whole.
“The way the structure is designed encompasses sustainability. Even the watering of the green wall is sourced from the lake,” he said. This was done so that the green walls could be sustainable as a whole and wouldn’t require water from any other source. The green walls are also designed to be seen from afar as the plants are arranged to form a large mural.

“We wanted to challenge ourselves not to just put up a normal green wall, but a green wall that actually connects one to the other. If you merge the walls together, it actually forms a large mural,” said Tay. He adds that the green walls were also specifically designed to not have water garters.
These green walls are not the only one of its kind as there have been some examples of such sustainable agriculture seen in other places like the vertical garden walls in Kuala Lumpur International Airport as well as on Menara Etiqa in Bangsar. There are various benefits of green walls as well, such as temperature regulation, noise reduction and a natural air-cleansing system.
Tay hopes students would appreciate the engineering involved in the construction of such sustainable architecture. “Every little detail has been looked into. When they look into the green wall and all the surrounding facilities, there is a hidden story behind it. So it challenges them to look into the finer details in their day-to-day exploration of life.”
