Genshin Impact is an open-world action role playing game that uses gacha, released in 2020. Gacha are video games which encourage players to spend currency in the game for virtual items as they progress onto different levels. In Genshin itself, players would have to save up their points to get a certain character they want or they could always buy it with their own money.
The game was developed and published by a Chinese studio, MiHoYo which is known for their incredible multiplayer adventure games such as Honkai Impact. Genshin allows players to control the number of characters they can use in the game and complete missions to achieve various artifacts that allow players to level up their characters so they can proceed to the next level.
Wong Mei Ting, a 22-years-old avid player of Genshin, says, “The game is often updated with new maps while developing different characters that enable players to try various kinds of gameplays. Players are mainly captivated by the characters as each character that has been released in its own game patch have storylines that demonstrate how their character came to be and what their role plays in the game.”
The game also supports cooperative multiplayer online in which players can play with their friends in a squad to fight battles which would be easier with teamwork. Though, in order to play with friends, players must first reach Adventure Rank 16 and unlock the level.
Genshin Impact’s gameplay mainly consists of quests for players to travel around, unlock items, complete dungeons and defeat enemies. For combat battle, players have the advantage to switch between party members, allowing multiple kinds of attacks to use on the enemies.

In terms of malfunctions and complaints regarding the game, Wong says, “The developers usually interact with the fanbase through one or two surveys that take place within a game patch that lasts about five to six weeks. Players can give ratings and thorough feedback through these surveys. The developer also made an app that allows players to discuss the game outside of Genshin while sharing content on it.”

The app made by MiHoYo for players to interact outside the game is called, ‘HoYoLab’.

MiHoYo also has branded that the anime collaboration with Ufotable would be a long-term project and it will not be released soon. Genshin fans will have to wait for the release of each episode and continue to play Genshin with its new upcoming map, Sumeru that was also simultaneously announced with the collaboration.
“Many fans have high hopes and expectations for the anime adaptation especially when it is in collaboration with Ufotable studios that create amazing visuals. Since many people know about Genshin but do not play it, the anime will definitely garner an even bigger fanbase for Genshin,” she said.
