Taylor’s annual talent show was back in action, but with the pandemic raging on and students confined back home again, this year’s Taylor’s Got Talent was conducted entirely online from 21 May to 10 June.

Despite all the setbacks the pandemic caused, the Talent Show was still a big success, according to one of the organizers from Taylor’s University Student Council, Michelle Pon.

“There were lots of submissions with most of the participants showing their singing and dancing talents.

Some were even drumming which is something I did not expect and also knitting, crochet, playing the piano, rapping, playing guitar and many more.”

Out of the all submissions made from over 40 participants, Tripta Sanju Daryanani ultimately took home the 1st place for her primo dancing performance.

The runners up were Cray Chng Kai-lan and Crystal Ng Xin Yi delivering a piano performance and singing performance respectively.

Taylor's University Student Council had held this same event in 2019 with everything done physically with video auditions and live performance on campus but due to unforeseen circumstances because of the new MCO, it forced the event to be conducted entirely online.

Taylor’s University Student Council said that they were still very pleased with the turnout and the way the competition ran and weren’t expecting such engagement.

Michelle Pon on behalf of the Student Council continued that they learnt a lot from making a competition in this manner a reality and also learnt to better themselves in terms of their judging aspects by hiring corresponding performing arts lecturers on board so it won’t seem like a popularity contest.

“Personally, I believe that students shouldn't just be good at academics but also at other soft skills.

Everyone is special, I know that everyone has talents and throughout this competition we hoped participants could discover their talents and be motivated to shine not just in this competition but also in the future, and I think we got that.”
