SUBANG JAYA, Selangor- Taylor’s University hosted its second Taylors Environmental, Social and Governance Festival, also known as, Taylors ESG Festival from 6-8 May at the Grand Hall. The event aimed to bring environmental and social awareness, focusing on sustainability and reusable items. Approximately 458 attendees participated in this event mainly Taylor’s University students. The event welcomed several business enterprises such as Gamuda Land, Kendari, Bungkus and many more.

Speakers from prominent business enterprises came as external speakers and did workshops to share their experiences and sustainable goals with the Taylor students. Kah Hong, a year one Bachelor of Entrepreneurship student shares how the event was very impactful to students who will soon be entering the working field. Kah Hong also shared his interest on day two of the event where he participated in a field trip to GAMUDA Land, Klang where students were educated on GAMUDA Land's current projects and applying SDG to their projects.

ESG is an important topic in Malaysia and involves climate change and environmental sustainability. Derrick Chan, ESG Festival Committee Member and Event Organiser says “It is important to know about ESG as we all may notice the weather has been very inconsistent, it is a signal where global warming is not just taking place but it is already in danger”. As the day passes more and more non-biodegradable materials are piling up and it all comes from our daily lives but we do not realise it. Derrick Chan says it is important to know that our daily items can be reusable for sustainable goods. He says “Items that we use can be given a second life. Everything that we use or broken does not mean it ends there”. Taylorians need to understand that change needs to happen and we must be accustomed to it or else nothing will change.

The ESG Festival this year was a success based on Derrick Chan with hopes that there will be another festival at the end of this year and it could attract more attendees and spread the topic of ESG to a wider audience. Many students who attended the event have given positive remarks mentioning that the event had opened their eyes to what is happening and even gave them ideas on their future assignments. The ESG Festival hopes to promote Go Green on the Taylor campus and achieve a plastic-free campus. Kah Hong concludes by stating a phrase mentioned by Mr Ganesh one of the panellist's entrepreneurs “ If you want to do something to change the environment let's take action and do it now”. The ESG Festival has given students a wider understanding of the importance of ESG and besides the attractive booths during the festival cultivating eco-friendly activities, students had a good time
