As of October, the trendy short video app named TikTok has reached over 1 billion monthly active users. The easy-to-navigate user interface and various types of content have made it one of the most popular social media apps since it was created by Bytedance, a Chinese company, in 2016. While the usual content revolves around fun dances, pop culture references and short lifestyle vlogs, various styles of videos using specific soundtracks usually pop up and start trending every other month. Based on the trending hashtags and audio charts organized by TikTok, these are some of the most recent trends taking over the ‘For You’ page.

If you have an old foundation that you’re looking to get rid of, try joining this new trend wherein the foundation is mixed with a small amount of water to make a supposed “improved” version. While the results seem pretty successful at first glance, the process has been known to be messy and it is also seen as a waste of foundation since one would need more than usual in order to mix it with the water fully.

Using the new slideshow function, creative TikTok users have come up with a way to incorporate the classic ‘choose your own adventure' game into the short video platform. By using the new slideshow function, these fun and interesting videos are both nostalgic and have a fresh spin on the old pastime. Instead of flipping to corresponding pages, users can simply swipe to the picture numbered according to their choices.

Just like the party game, this trend has been around on TikTok for ages. Usually, the creator of the sound will ask users to “react blindly” which in this case means to use the sound straightaway before listening to the whole thing beforehand. This can result in some rather amusing content such as putting all your fingers down and realizing you admitted to something embarrassing about yourself, or simply realizing something you might not have known.

Another one of TikTok’s confidence-boosting trends is the recent catwalk trend that has graced many a for you page. Two people pair up and one walks backward while the other walks forward and takes turns facing the camera. Not only is this a fun way to showcase outfits with a friend, but it also truly does boost one’s confidence by taking large, bold strides to the beat of the song.

This is another one of those trends that have been around for ages and have since had many variations of it resurfacing on the for you page. The most popular variation is the challenge wherein the user turns off the volume and tries to stay on beat for the whole audio. In this case, it’s a simple guide on counting rhythm that’s helpful for kids and anyone trying to learn more about music.

This interesting trend combines the common format of ‘Get Ready with Me’ TikToks and a cute dance to go with the upbeat song. Users get dolled up and dance once they’re done. There’s a hidden challenge in timing yourself so that you finish right when the dance starts. This song is actually about being unapologetically ‘cute’ and the combination of these sarcastic lyrics paired with the cutesy J-pop instrumental is an interesting one.

Yet another fun combination of trends, this trend tied together a recent dance trend to Meghan Trainor’s latest song with an unexpected transformation at the end. This transformation format is one of TikTok’s most common videos and the ways one can transition from having just woken up to being dressed to the nines have been multiplying since the app was created. The pioneer of this particular trend is known as ‘Miss Weirdly’, who has also been known for her other interesting transitions.
