Taylor’s University’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) department just launched Taylor’s Virtual Lab (vLab) in early April through Taylor’s Campus Central.

Due to the ongoing pandemic, most students do not have access to the computer labs on campus and thus the software available on the devices.

The ICT department, through vLab, addresses this concern by establishing a website through which students can access computers on campus from the safety of their homes.

As mentioned on their website, “vLab is a technology that allows users to connect to virtual labs easily.”

Taylor’s vLab is currently accessible during weekdays from 7 AM to 10 PM, with over 100 computers available across 4 labs.

Among the applications ready for use are Microsoft Office suite, Adobe 2021, and IBM SPSS.

Users can choose which labs they want to visit and check the seats’ availability for each lab.

All Taylor’s University students with an active account can easily access this facility using their student ID and their personal password.

Ellis Ngu Kah Shin, a Taylorian that has used the vLab said that it is very convenient for students who do not have those softwares installed in their personal computers.

Ellis added that it requires a strong internet connection for the vLab to run smoothly.

“The internet here is bad so it takes a lot of time to load.”

To make sure of the students’ best experience in using vLab, the ICT Department has also included several user guides covering the step-by-step directions to solve any technical problems that students may encounter.

These files can be found on Taylor’s vLab login site.
