On 14 September, a workshop organized to guide students through the art of creative thinking kicked off as part of the business pitch competition organized by Taylor’s University.
The workshop was a way for students to polish their creative thinking skills and perfect their business pitch as a whole. Robin Cheng, an organizer and lecturer-in-charge of the event said, “The business competition process will force participants to think critically about every aspect of a business.”

Creative thinking is one of the most important soft skills that employers look for in potential employees. Not only does it encompass analytical skills, innovation, and collaboration, but it also includes the skill to challenge existing ideas and brainstorm even better solutions to an existing problem.
The inspiration behind the business pitch competition started when the government launched its directive to increase the number of young entrepreneurs.
“It follows IR4.0 in which we are expected to change how we live, work, and communicate. It’s also likely to change the things we value and the way we value them in the future,” Cheng said.
The final deadline for the submission video is 20 October and the announcement of the top 10 finalists will be on 2 November. The grand finals of the business pitch workshop will be taking place on 11 November at Taylor’s, and there is a total of RM1,900 in cash prizes for the top three teams up for grabs.
Cheng added, “We welcome students to use knowledge to put sustainability at the heart of their business strategy.”
