Taylor’s SLC walkway was turned into a vibrant carnival ground from 12 to 14 April as members of Etc. Magazine Club set up booths for handcrafted jewellery, henna tattoos, and staple games as part of this fundraiser event.

The event drew a small crowd to the front of the Student Life Centre, which is nestled between the Enrollment Office and the Grand Hall.

Despite the blazing weather, the atmosphere was festive as students waited patiently in line for henna tattoos while conversing with their peers.

Every Taylorian Counts (Etc.) is the official magazine club of Taylor's University and College.

The club publishes an annual magazine and routinely updates its website with content written and illustrated solely by club members.

The funds raised through the mini carnival would be used to cover the expense of printing the club's annual magazine, which was previously only available electronically due to the pandemic.

“Our goal was actually 600 Ringgit this time, and I’m ecstatic to say that we have met our target and have even exceeded it,” said Tiffany Chan, the president of the Etc. Magazine Club.

Chan attributes the mini carnival's success to the dedication of her club members, who devoted their time and effort to the event.

“One of our members, Sandhiya, handcrafted all of the jewellery we sold during the carnival, and two of our members, Keerat and Doreen, drew all of those incredible amazing henna designs,” Chan added.

Chay Hew Thoong, a member of the Etc. Magazine Club, claimed that she had a pleasant experience tending the booth.

“I loved it because it gave me the opportunity to meet and get to know a lot of new people,” said Chay, who was spotted chatting and laughing with the customers at her booth.

In planning the event, Etc. Magazine received approval from their club advisor, Alan Dexter, and organised the event using existing club resources, since the university did not fund this affair.

The carnival was also marketed on Taylor's Campus Central and TIMeS portals, two of the most frequently visited websites by Taylor’s University students.

“I’m very grateful to have the opportunity to organise a physical fundraiser during my term as president,” said Chan.

“It is definitely very gratifying to know that as president, I have given the members a chance to feel like they belong in this club.”
