“You're all I can think of, every drop I drink up. You're my soda pop, my little soda pop.”

Heard this catchy line while scrolling through social media and wondering where it came from? It’s from none other than KPop Demon Hunters. Produced by Sony Pictures Animation and released on Netflix on 20 June, this animated film has only gotten more popular since its release. Still sitting pretty at No. 2 on Netflix’s Top Movies chart even after a month, the hype is real and still going strong. And trust me, even if you’re not a K-pop fan, it’s still 100% worth watching.

So, what’s all the buzz about? K-pop-themed animation might sound like just another lame and boring film — like a cheesy gimmick. But KPop Demon Hunters flips the script. Fans are watching it on repeat for a reason, whether it’s the catchy music, eye-popping visuals, or the surprisingly emotional storyline. I’ll admit, I didn’t expect much going into it… but wow. I knew I was wrong from the very first scene.

The film kicks off with a bang, introducing HUNTR/X, the hit K-pop girl group with a badass secret life as demon hunters. Voice talents Arden Cho as Rumi, May Hong as Mira, and Ji-young Yoo as Zoey bring these characters to life with charm and energy. From the moment the show starts, you’ll be so drawn into it that you’ll feel like you’re part of the crowd, cheering them on. The animation? Top-tier. The character designs? Clearly inspired by real-life idols. And the music? Straight-up bangers. Their hit track “Golden” is still charting on the Billboard Global Charts — a girl group that’s not only a hit in the film, but also in real life.

And of course, no K-pop universe is complete without a boy group. If HUNTR/X are the hunters… who are the demons?

Meet the Saja Boys — jaw-dropping visuals, insanely talented, and lowkey evil. This rival boy group isn’t just here for fan wars; they are the actual demons sent to destroy the Honmoon, a magical energy barrier that protects humanity and is powered by the energy of HUNTR/X’s performances. The movie cleverly blends modern pop culture with traditional Korean mythology, and that’s exactly what makes it stand out. Did I forget to mention? Jinu is voiced by the one and only Ahn Hyo-seop, who’s now stealing our hearts with just his voice.

Sounds like a typical fighting movie? Not at all. The action scenes are slick, and the lore feels grounded in something deeper than just sparkly visuals. The opening performance-turned-demon-fight scene is especially iconic. One moment they’re serving the stage, the next they’re whipping out magical weapons and slaying shadow creatures, all without missing a beat.

While there are hundreds more reasons I could go on about what makes this film a gem, why bother continuing to read when you could just hit play? Open a new tab, start watching, and get ready to say what I said when the credits rolled: “Wait… that’s it?
