Multicultural fiesta organised by UM Persatuan Bahasa Cina held in KL

On 4 to 5 June, Persatuan Bahasa Cina Universiti Malaya (PBCUM) hosted a two-day multicultural fiesta named YiLanZhongHua Cultural Night at KL Gateway Mall .


YiLanZhongHua Cultural Night is a melting pot of cultures, bringing together people from different backgrounds to enjoy the experience together. The event provided a platform for people to showcase their unique traditions, customs, music, dance, food and games, reflecting the diversity of Malaysian culture. The multicultural carnival was organized by 75 committees and the two-day event was attended by 308 participants.

At the event, the familiar Nasi Kerabu, Mochi, Sugar-coated haws, and Thai milk tea attracted many people to stop and taste. At the same time, Kolam, Dough Pinching, Shadow Play, Chinese Knot, Calligraphy, and other DIY workshops also allow people to further understand the cultural customs of different races. There were food promotions, skill displays, cultural experiences, theatrical performances, and other activities.

In addition, marble game, carrom, batu seremban, klotski, and chowka bhara were exhibited at the event. Flipping and other experiential games of different cultures allowed people to feel the charm of different cultures while having fun, cultivating a sense of unity and friendship, to let more people understand and respect different cultures, and cultivate a sense of cultural identity and pride.

PBCUM aimed to promote the use of proper Chinese language, help members understand traditional values of Chinese ethnic groups, raise members’ social awareness, and also foster interactions between the various ethnic groups on campus.


Choong Zhi Xin, a member and event leader at PBCUM, said, “Through this event, we expected the public to experience and understand the cultural characteristics and traditions of different ethnicities while also eliminating the misunderstandings and prejudices that occurred among the various ethnic groups.”
