Since it’s the holy month of Ramadan, many Muslims in Malaysia and all around the world are celebrating Eid and preparing for the festive season.
It’s a tradition every year for those who are celebrating Hari Raya Aidilfitri to always come in preparation to celebrate and get new clothes to wear on the first day of Hari Raya.

Netizens complaining about "Baju Raya' being too overpriced on Twitter.
However, lately on social media many netizens are unhappy that the price of Baju raya goes up every year. The price range of Baju Melayu would be around RM150-RM300 and Baju Kurung/Kebaya costs about RM400-RM500.
Despite designer brands in Malaysia costing an average price of RM500 for RTW( READY TO WEAR) pieces, many people think it’s too overpriced and out of their budget. Fashion designer Juliani Jamal working under the brand Jovian Mandagie says “The reason why the average market prices range around RM400 to RM500 for Baju Raya per piece for women is due to inflation, the prices of materials and logistics have gone up due to COVID-19.”
When it comes to the underprivileged B40,RM 500 is way out of their budget. There are brands that cater to the B40 market with baju kurung priced at between RM80-RM150.
"An average pair of Baju Kurung priced at this average are mostly RTW designer brands.
“Part of what you pay goes into the design and shopping experience such as marketing collateral, websites, etc.”
Every consumer prefers to have the best quality to last and follow the latest trends.
As a fashion designer herself Juliani says, ”I believe if you can take care of it properly, most clothing can last. Comfort is a big factor too. A lot of brands in Malaysia are designing for comfort.”
Since the month of Syawal lasts for a month, there are occasions such as Open Houses or visiting friends of family during that month, people definitely don't want to repeat their same outfit all over again.
”Depending on their budget, but yes if they do purchase multiple baju kurung, at least 2 pairs on average or get at least 3-4 pairs.”
