Common Ground is one of the first and fastest-growing companies among co-working space providers. It has established its name in Malaysia as one of the largest co-working spaces for customers to rent a certain office room or desk for an affordable price.
According to Free Malaysia Today, co-working spaces are currently in demand as more businesses are considering flexible working areas post pandemic. Besides, it is reported that Co-Labs director, Benjamin Teo mentioned that co-working spaces continued to receive enquiries and bookings for temporary workspaces for hybrid workers.
Reported byVulcanPost writes that Common Ground was established in 2017, founded by Juhn Teo and business partner, Erman Akinci. The pair have grown the co-working space to 28 venues across eight cities in three different countries, such as Malaysia, Thailand and Philippines.
Their aim is to empower workers and the business community to change their work culture through beautiful minimalist designed spaces, significant people interaction and the adoption of digital technology.
Karekhaa Nair, a community manager of Taylor’s Lakeside Common Ground said, “At Common Ground, we would like to create a community whereby we want businesses to know one another and also help each other out along the way.”

Nair also said that the co-working space is not only restricted for businesses but they also encourage events to rent and host. Common Ground posted the opening of its space at Taylor’s Syopz Mall on Facebook. The space offered a free day pass for the public in conjunction with their soft launch venue opening from 15 to 19 August.

She said, “This is our first ever space at a university so we thought it would be an unique experience of seeing how a co-working space could exist here. We want students to learn and realize that after they graduate, this would be something they could adapt to in the office environment.”
Common Ground at Taylor’s offers hot desks, fixed desks and private offices for customers to rent. Nair said that there is also an inclusion of a 30-person large conference room and a lounge with weekly events. The space was designed for customers to brainstorm their works and creativity.

“Working at a co-working space is relatively much cheaper. We also have facilities that come with our membership fee such as the utilization of the printing machine that is included in the rental of our office rooms,” she said.
Common Ground is relatively new at Taylor’s and there are bound to be disruptions due to system failures at the co-working space. “Our IT support team is always available and ready to assist on anything. We already have a website and our own app so we do have an extensive support system to do anything,” she said.
Nair also said, “There are no improvements regarding Common Ground as of now but currently, this space is fluid and flexible so it goes with the trend and what is coming up in the market. As time changes, we also change..”
