Being physically present in a classroom isn’t the only learning option anymore, the concept of traditional education has changed over a year due to restriction of social distancing.

The Government, in the Movement Control Order (MCO) announcement made since last year on 18 March 2020 had required all higher education institutions to conduct teaching and learning activities either online or in hybrid mode.

As all higher education institutions are required to conduct teaching and learning online now, the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences (SLAS), Taylor’s University organised a workshop-style webinar for school teachers on 11 May 2021, in an effort to support school teachers during this time.

Teaching fully online is no doubt daunting to even a seasoned academic, by participating in this workshop, teachers will be equipped with skills to manage and engage their students using effective technological pedagogies to keep with the times.

SLAS aimed to provide effective e-learning tips and tricks to enable teachers to prepare their online learning lessons seamlessly, to establish the digital era of students to a quality education, as long as they have access to any digital devices.

There were three speakers at this webinar: Fadhilah Raihan Lokman, a lecturer of SLAS in Taylor’s University, Serit Banyan, Stream Coordinator & lecturer from the Department of Social Science and Balqis Zulkifli, a video production specialist.

“We are glad and grateful for the successful organizing of this webinar. We received a good response from participants/ teachers from public and private schools around Malaysia for this webinar.

They are waiting for this webinar and look forward to more information to improve their online teaching and learning.” Said Ms. Siti Noor Amyah Khasbullah, a lecturer from the School of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Therefore, Ms.Siti also mentioned that the objective of this webinar is to help school teachers to structure the online learning based on a pedagogy approach and to guide school teachers in integrating learning technologies into online learning such as social media.

“We also want to share the best practices on how to make a video for online learning using the free video editing tool,” she added.

The participants gave a good response, and they appreciated the initiative in organizing this webinar by SALS Taylor’s University, where they got more info on how to make their online teaching and learning interesting.

There are a few responses from the teachers shared by Ms.Siti.

“It was a good sharing of info. There are many apps that we could use to make our teaching interesting. I enjoyed it” said Bawani Govindaraju, a teacher from SMK Machang Bubuk, Bukit Mertajam.

“Thank you for organizing the webinar. It was a fruitful sharing session with interesting ideas,” said Angel Leong, a teacher from Hua Xia Private School.
