SUBANG JAYA, 12 October 2025 – The newly opened tenants at Taylor’s University Lakeside Campus have been stirring a lot of buzz and excitement among students, staff, and crowds of curious residents and hungry customers from outside the university. From cafes to food stalls to the newly opened Lakeview food court, the sudden increase in new spots has completely shifted the university’s atmosphere.

In a span of three months, Taylor's University welcomed several tenants, including famous ones such as Sushi Plus, Mixue, Banga Banga, and Maru Coffee. However, the biggest and most talked about change had been the new food court, Lakeview Haus. Housing around eight different restaurant kitchens, all with a vast variety of different cuisines, this Lakeview Haus has managed to even go viral on the social media platform TikTok.
This new and improved change has increased social interaction amongst the students, and created vibrant gathering places that not only provide comfort, but also convenience for students waiting in between classes, or to simply have lunch with their friends.
"This place finally! has a Mala Place! And Sushi!" shouted Bianca, an enthusiastic Law student from Malaysia, and as Bianca has her favorite spots, so does the Inkslingers.
Here are the InkSlingers’ picks for the Top 5 Hot Spots Picks at Lakeview Haus!
Starting at number 5, we have Mixue. This boba tea and ice cream store has made their place on the map, having a long queue in front of its stall every single time, no matter what part of the day it is. What is most appealing about this shop is how cheap everything is! They sell their signature RM2.00 soft serves and even RM3.00 lemonades! Not only that, Mixue has a diverse range of cold beverages and desserts, making it the perfect snack in Malaysia's blazing heat. The most recommended item on the menu would be the boba tea soft serve, simply a cure for heatstroke. Mixue's cheap pricing and variative menu makes it deserving to be part of the InkSlingers' top five.

At number 4, we have Banga Banga, an authentic Korean food restaurant. This is Banga Banga’s first branch, originating initially from the area of SS15. With its growing popularity, it is sure to make the top 5 of the students' top picks. Not only are they considered incredibly cheap for Korean food, with their set menus ranging only from RM16.00 - RM18.00, but it is a complete meal tray with side dishes as well. The most recommended dish from their menu would be their cheese chicken meal set. Rice with chicken, with kimchi, jeon, and soup, is sure to fill your stomachs up! With this, Bang Ga Bang Ga is deserving of the fourth spot in the InkSlingers’ top five.

At number 3, we have Shawarma Express. This newly opened shawarma restaurant has fused different cuisines into Arabic cuisine, creating an interesting and delicious mix. Not only is its service incredibly fast, but it's also one of the cheapest options currently on campus! With shawarmas starting from as low as RM8.00, this store was sure to attract a crowd. Shawarma Express does not only share shawarmas, but they sell rice platters, burgers, sandwiches, naan, hummus, and pizzas too! It is difficult to find cheap and delicious meals on campus lately, which makes shawarma express the third spot in the top five picks for the InkSlingers.

At number 2, we have the Spicy Temptation Malatang Shop. Allowing customers to pick out what they want from their fresh ingredients, all you have to do is hand in your customized bowl, and they’ll cook your chosen ingredients for you! This Malatang shop is appealing for three reasons. Firstly, there is no pork and no lard, making it accessible for muslim students and staff to try out. Second, it is considered less pricey than other malatang shops off campus, with an average bowl costing RM15.00 - RM20.00. Lastly, they have a variety of ingredients to choose from, ranging from beef, duck, chicken, all kinds of seafood such as squid and octopus, and all kinds of tofu and vegetables. With that in mind, this is definitely a place worth checking out and a place worthy of second on the InkSlingers’ top five list.

Finally, at number 1 we have Sushi Plus. Sushi Plus has been a well known Sushi brand that has opened franchises in multiple places, including SS15. Now, students are excitedly lining up for this infamous Japanese Cuisine, making it the Inkslingers’ number one go-to restaurant from the new tenants. This shop’s premise is interesting, as customers get to pick and choose which type of sushi they want in their box. Sushi Plus has a wide selection, ranging from salmon, unagi, tamago, and more! All customers need to do is pick the sushi of their liking, and then pay at the cashier! Not only is it efficient, convenient, and an interesting take on sushi, but it is also really easy on the pocket! With sushi ranging only from RM2.00 - RM4.00 per piece, it is sure to be a steal! Sushi Plus has also provided recommendations, making it easier for customers who have never ordered from the shop previously to make their pick. InkSlingers would recommend getting the salmon nigiris, as they are an absolute delight. All in all, Sushi Plus is a place you should definitely check out as our number one pick!

This improvement aligns with the university’s ongoing initiative to enhance student life by supporting small businesses and providing lifestyle-focused amenities on campus. Taylor’s University has shared that this decision was brought upon by student feedback earlier on into the year.
Although most of the responses have been positive, some students have voiced their concerns about the overcrowding and lack of space during peak lunch hours.

"It’s always so full, especially during the lunch rush. We'd have to fight for seats all the time to eat here." Says Ayu, a student from Indonesia.
Despite the complaints, the new wave of tenants has clearly shifted the university’s dynamic and has transformed the campus into a bustling social hub packed with rumbling tummies, eager chatter, and satisfied smiles and laughter. With more tenants set to open in the upcoming months, Taylor’s University will continue to evolve from not just a learning space, but also into a vibrant lifestyle centre for students and the neighbouring communities.
